The Professional Development Symposium is an annual educational/training event sponsored by the Alamo City Chapter of ASMC. It is designed to enhance the skills and abilities financial and resource management personnel need to meet the challenges of working in the 21st century. The Alamo City Chapter includes members from Randolph, Lackland, and Laughlin AFBs, as well as Brooks City-Base and Ft. Sam Houston. ASMC is a non-profit educational and professional organization for military and civilian personnel involved in the field of military comptrollership. ASMC was established as the Society of Military Accountants and Statisticians in 1948 in Military comptrollership is defined as financial management professions in the Department of Defense and Coast Guard. It includes Accounting and Finance, Auditing, Budgeting, Comptrollership, Cost Analysis, Financial Management, Management/Program Analysis, Resource Management, Statistics, and many supporting activities. Warrior Support: As we continue to support our fallen heroes, the Chapter will continue to collect donations for the Fisher Houses at Ft. Sam Houston and Lackland AFB, and will add the Ft. Hood Fisher House this year due to the tragedy in November 2009. Please join us in showing our appreciation for those who have so valiantly served our country and their families. Community Service Activity: The Dare to Love and Rainbow Room will have a table to collect donations. This year they are in desperate need of new clothing and shoes for elementary age children. In addition, they are looking for Prom clothing and accessories (male or female). As always, they can also use baby clothes, diapers, or cash donations. Dare to Love is a non-profit organization with a mission to enrich the lives of abused and neglected children referred to Child Protective Services (CPS) with gifts, hope and love. The Rainbow Room is an emergency supply store stocked with diapers, formula, clothing, shoes, school supplies, personal grooming items, and household cleaning supplies. Everything is given free of charge to the children through their Child Protective Services’ caseworkers. In 2008, they distributed 61,581 new items to 6,771 children or caretakers. Since its inception in 1997, the Rainbow Room has helped over 38,800 persons with emergency needs. Meals: ($15.00 each for non-registrants) (vegetarian options available upon request) Monday, 8 Feb: Beef Bourguignon (sirloin beef tips in red wine mushroom sauce served over rice blend), fresh vegetables, dinner rolls, iced tea Tuesday, 9 Feb: Tri-color rotini pasta with sliced charbroiled chicken breast with tomato-herb sauce, fresh vegetables, dinner rolls, and iced tea Snacks: Sponsored by P3S, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Help Me! Tech Team Morning - Miniature muffins and pastries, fruits, and juices. Afternoon - Assorted cookies and bottled water. Drinks: Free coffee will be available throughout the day. Soft drinks and bottled water will be available throughout the day in vending machines. Dress: Military – normal uniform of the day Civilians – business casual Doors open at 7:00 am.
